Review: The Hockey Stick

The hockey stick is very important to the game in hockey. In the late 1800’s when ice hockey was first invented there were sticks that was just a piece of wood. I would like to show of a graphic of how one of those sticks looked like (down below). Star players in the early 1900’s were Georges Vezina (picture down below) and Howie Morenz. The NHL was started in 1918. The first team was the Montreal Canadiens. Then came the Toronto Maple Leafs which were followed by the Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, and the New York Rangers. There are rivalries throughout the league such as Rangers vs. Devils. These rivalries would have never been played if it wasn’t for the stick. You use the stick in hockey by shooting the puck, passing the puck and carrying the puck.
The evolution of the stick (Timeline):

Curves is still a big part of the hockey stick. Curves help you shoot the puck. Curves were invented by Stan Mikita and Bobby Hull. At first when the curve was just beginning to be in the NHL an illegal curve would be 1.5 inches. It later changed to 1 inch and then to half an inch. Until 2006 the amount for an illegal curve stayed the same. In 2006 they changed it to 3/4 of an inch. In the NHL, right now it is still 3/4 of an inch.

So that’s pretty much about the hockey stick. Now looks take a look at some photo’s:
